Dose & Dispose: The Hidden Cost of Wasted Sedation in Endoscopy

Data Analysis

We are conducting a multicentre, retrospective service evaluation assessing sedation-disposal practices over a two-week period. The primary aim is to quantify the amount of wasted IV sedation agents (midazolam, fentanyl, and buscopan) during endoscopic procedures, with a view to identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve sustainability.

Objectives

  • Quantify wasted IV sedation agents across endoscopy units
  • Identify opportunities to reduce pharmaceutical waste
  • Improve sustainability practices in endoscopy
